A friend once said "White man make big fire, sit far away, Indian make small fire, sit close." This phrase offers a wise observation from a culture that lived at least 10,000 years here in North America without devastating the ecology. A people who didn't talk about sustainability, but who were all about it.

Algae have great potential in the quest for biofuel, but the basic research needed to support the farming of algae is starving. Recently several start-up companies have failed, and energy research in this area is not funded at a level that will support the development of basic research and applied research.
Snowy loves fresh water and he prefers
to drink only the fresh, top layer of the water dish.
We call that the "water cream"
since cream floats to the top
and is the sweetest taste.
He has diabetes, though that didn't come from
water cream,
rather his excessive drinking of water
was
a
symptom of diabetes.
Now it is controlled to a degree
with insulin injections
twice a
day.
He's a good friend.
